Ratings Criteria
Rated 1: Varsity Level Crew Chief
Demonstrates an excellent quality performance to officiate Varsity contests. Demonstrates the following: Builds trust with partners/coaches/players, calm demeanor, approachable, great physical shape, confidence, game management skills, respect, integrity, hustle, great judgment, consistency in play calling, excellent communication skills, common sense, great rules knowledge & how to apply, great partner. Ability to accept constructive criticism from observers/partners. Is considered a mentor to younger officials.
Rated 2: Varsity U1/U2 Crew Chief at times
Demonstrates good quality performance to officiate mid/lower Varsity contests. Demonstrates the following: good knowledge of rules, good communication skills, good knowledge of areas of coverage, great physical appearance, approachable, hustles, respect for partners/coaches/players, good game awareness, good game management, working towards being a Crew Chief, takes initiative to attend off season camps to work on their game. Ability to accept constructive criticism from observers/partners. Is considered to be a mentor to younger officials.
Rated 3: Lower level Varsity/JV/Frosh
Demonstrates ability to work lover level Varsity/JV/Frosh contests with a Rated 1 or 2 official(s). Continues to work on communication skills, areas of court coverage, rules knowledge, consistency, physical appearance, build rapport with coaches/players/partners. Takes initiative to attend off season camps to work on their game. Ability to accept constructive criticism from observers/partners.
Rated 4: JV/Frosh only
This is an official who is most likely in their 2nd year of officiating. Working towards his/her skills, knowledge of rules, primary areas of coverage, communication skills, getting comfortable with blowing the whistle. This official can also benefit from attending off season camps and working spring/summer leagues. Ability to accept constructive criticism from observers/partners.
Rated 5: Rookie
This is typically a rookie in their 1st year of officiating. They are working on all aspects of the game. Rules knowledge, court coverage, blowing the whistle, hustle, physical appearance. This official can benefit from attending off season camps, working spring/summer leagues. Ability to accept constructive criticism from observers/partners.
